Discovering Opportunities

Browsing the Feed

The opportunities feed displays a curated list of active opportunities. Each card shows:
  • Opportunity Title and Organizer Information
  • Opportunity Type (Hackathon, Grant, Competition, or Ideathon)
  • Location and Date Range (start and end dates)
  • Images showcasing the event
  • Tags for quick categorization (AI, Biology, MBA, Startup, Psychology, Web3)
  • Upvote Count indicating community interest
The desktop layout features a 3-column design:
  • Left Sidebar: Search bar, quick links, and featured opportunities
  • Main Feed: Scrollable opportunity cards with infinite loading
  • Right Sidebar: Calendar widget showing upcoming deadlines and task widget

Search and Filters

Search by Keywords

Use the search bar to find opportunities by title, organizer, or description. The search updates automatically as you type (400ms debounce).Example searches: “DU Hacks”, “Tech meetup”, “Fellowship”

Filter by Type

Click the filter icon and select from:
  • Hackathon
  • Grant
  • Competition
  • Ideathon
You can select multiple types simultaneously.

Filter by Tags

Click on tag badges to filter by domain:
  • AI
  • Biology
  • MBA
  • Startup
  • Psychology
  • Web3
Selected tags are highlighted in dark gray.

Clear Filters

Click “Clear Filters” to reset all search criteria and view the full feed.
All filter changes are reflected in the URL, so you can bookmark or share specific filtered views.

Interacting with Opportunities

Viewing Details

Click on any opportunity card to view:
  • Full description and requirements
  • Complete image gallery with modal view
  • Organizer contact information
  • Start and end dates
  • Comments from other users

Bookmarking

Save opportunities to your personal tracker:
  1. Click the Bookmark icon on any opportunity card
  2. The opportunity is automatically added to your Tracker with “Not Applied” status
  3. Access your saved opportunities from the Tracker page
You must be logged in to bookmark opportunities. Guest users will see a login prompt.

Upvoting

Show support for quality opportunities by upvoting:
  • Click the upvote arrow to increase the count
  • Upvoted opportunities appear with a highlighted upvote button
  • High upvote counts indicate community-verified quality

Commenting

Engage with the community:
  1. Click the comment icon on an opportunity
  2. Write your question, experience, or tip
  3. View replies from organizers and other students

Posting Opportunities

Creating a New Opportunity

Click 'Post Opportunity'

Find the button in the horizontal banner (desktop) or vertical card (mobile) at the top of the feed.

Fill in Details

Required fields:
  • Title: Clear, descriptive name
  • Type: Select from Hackathon, Grant, Competition, or Ideathon
  • Description: Detailed information about the opportunity
  • Organizer Info: Contact details or organization name
Optional fields:
  • Images: Upload event posters or promotional material
  • Location: Physical or virtual venue
  • Start Date and End Date
  • Tags: Categorize your opportunity (up to 6 tags)

Submit for Review

New opportunities are published immediately but may be flagged for admin review if they violate community guidelines.
Only verified users can post opportunities. Unverified accounts can browse and bookmark.

Editing Your Posts

If you created an opportunity:
  1. Open the opportunity detail view
  2. Click the Edit button (visible only to the creator)
  3. Update any field and save changes
  4. Your edits are reflected immediately
The left sidebar (desktop) shows Featured Opportunities - a curated selection of high-quality, trending opportunities. These are typically:
  • Recently posted opportunities with high engagement
  • Verified opportunities from trusted organizations
  • Time-sensitive opportunities with approaching deadlines

Calendar Integration

The right sidebar displays a Calendar Widget showing:
  • Colored dots on dates with upcoming opportunity deadlines
  • Quick view of this month’s important dates
  • Click any date to filter opportunities by deadline
Bookmark opportunities to see their deadlines highlighted in the calendar widget.

Best Practices

  • Use tags to filter by your domain of interest
  • Search for your university or city name to find local events
  • Check the feed regularly as new opportunities are posted daily
  • Sort by upvotes to find community-verified quality opportunities
  • Write clear, concise titles (avoid all caps)
  • Include high-quality images (event posters, organization logos)
  • Provide complete organizer information for credibility
  • Set accurate start and end dates
  • Use appropriate tags for better discoverability
  • Add detailed descriptions with eligibility criteria and benefits
  • Bookmark opportunities as soon as you find them interesting
  • Update your Tracker status as you progress (Applied, Shortlisted, Selected)
  • Set reminders for approaching deadlines using the calendar
  • Comment on opportunities to share your experience after participating

Frequently Asked Questions

Look for:
  • Verification badges on the post
  • High upvote counts from the community
  • Complete organizer information with official contact details
  • Professional images and detailed descriptions
You can also comment to ask questions or search for the organization online.
Yes! Each opportunity has a unique URL. Simply copy the link from your browser’s address bar when viewing the opportunity detail page.
Opportunities with end dates in the past may be filtered out or marked as expired. However, they remain visible for reference and comments from participants.
The default feed shows:
  1. Pinned/featured opportunities first
  2. Recently posted opportunities
  3. Opportunities sorted by engagement (upvotes + comments)
You can use filters to customize the order.
